Kamal was born in north India. The youngest of three children, Kamal enjoyed a happy, joyful childhood, but this all changed at the age of ten when her mother was forced to give Kamal up, because she simply couldn’t afford to raise her. Distraught and overwhelmed, Kamal’s mum took her to an orphanage to leave her there. Yet she found that she did not have the courage of conviction to go through with it. To Kamal’s relief and joy, her mother returned for her at dawn the next morning. Yet Kamal found herself marked by that encounter. She vowed that she would not be a burden to her mum. She would be self sufficient, earning whatever she could as a ten year old and pay for her own education. And one day she vowed, that she would build an orphanage for children who’s parents couldn’t rescue them.
And though it was a subconscious promise which would lay dormant in her memory for many decades, Kamal found herself at the age of forty five, as a young widow seeking purpose in her life, and was divinely reawakened to the childhood desire she had carried deep down in her heart to one day build a home for orphaned and abandoned children. And so that is exactly what she did.
Leaving behind the life she had established in the UK with her family and giving up all she had known and possessed, she returned to her India and began to build a children’s home for the orphaned and neglected. The journey wasn’t easy at all. It was challenging and lonely, yet her strong Christian faith and the support of her family sustained her. In 2004, as the doors opened to Immanuel Home, her heart felt full, as the first children began to arrive and settle at the orphanage. Becoming mama to all twenty children that now form her precious Immanuel family, she also found herself legally adopting the most vulnerable children as her own, so she could build a future for them that could be truly secure.
Every single child at the home now enjoys a strong, private education, creative pursuits, spiritual nurturing, physical and mental wellbeing and a loving, fruitful life. For Kamal the journey has completely changed her. The adventure of stepping out in bold faith and living a lifestyle of miraculous provision has enabled her to achieve more than she thought was ever possible! And she is completely blown away that the seeds that were sown into her heart, from a night of heart ache and turmoil at an orphanage at the age of ten, have blossomed into an extravagant life of love, purpose and redemption for herself and for countless children, for generations to come.
